A local derby today that had it all. Sunshine, End to end stuff in a 10 goal thriller which was more evenly matched than the score reflects. For the first half the teams were well matched and went into the break at 2-1 Hawks – Hawks perhaps getting nervous now they are in touching distance of winning the League? All the goals in the first half were spectacular in their own way. Pacy attacking from Hawks was met with strong defending by Tigers – and the midfields were evenly matched. The second half was a slightly different story. Despite falling behind and pulling themselves back into the game twice, Tigers resolve was eventually broken by a goal mouth mix-up which gave Hawks their 5th and Tigers heads dropped although they did create a couple of chances before shipping two more to rather flatter Hawks. A game I am sure the neutrals enjoyed more than the coaches! From my point of view, it was great to see the significant progress made by Tigers since the reverse fixture. As I approached the field it was impossible to tell who was who as the play was so evenly balanced.

Hawks started off against Chorleywood totally in charge, scoring 2 good goals and a heavy beating looked on. However, Chorleywood get a good goal from a free kick to make it 2-1 and they started to control the game. Half time arrived with Hawks narrowly holding on to their lead. 2nd half started with Chorleywood still on top and the Hawks defenders doing a sterling job keeping the score 2-1. Then, as the 2nd half wore on, Hawks began to regain their grip on the game and got a 3rd goal to ease the pressure and then a 4th. Chorleywood grabbed a deserved 2nd before Hawks rounded off the scoring with a 5th. A flattering scoreline for Hawks but a win is a win and they remain in top spot although being actively pursued by 3 or 4 other teams – an exciting climax to the season awaits.
