Benson Footy Report

Hawks were outplayed by a skillful St Albans side who took their goal opportunities with aplomb. Hawks battled hard but struggled to find a rhythm and formation to counteract the efficient St Albans side. It was however a match that never felt totally out of Hawks grasp as goals were found to peg the visiotrs back; it was only the final goal from St Albans in the last 5 minutes that stretched the lead beyond even the most optimistic of supporters’ expectations. Hawks finished their league in a very creditable 3rd place with plenty of signs for great optimism for next season.

Dads note. With 8 strikers there was lots of rotation upfront. Bense had a one on one with keeper and went left into an on coming defender.

Should have gone right. Great shot just went wide from 30 yards. Finished good performance with headed goal.

21 for the season. 🙂 well done son

Bensons Footy Report

A very exciting and competitive match for Hawks against top of the table Abbots Youth who, earlier in the season, had rather humiliated Hawks with an 8 goal win. The league leaders took an early lead with a rather scrappy goal and with the confidence of a team who have yet to lose they looked in danger of doubling their advantage, however Hawks started to warm to their task and as the the first half developed so they managed to find an equaliser. In the second half, with the pitch 4 slope in their favour, Hawks took increasing confidence from their competitiveness and scored a screaming second goal with the ball lashed into the net on the volley. 2:1 to Hawks! Thereafter the game moved from one end to the other with plenty of chances missed by both sides plus some heroic defending and goalkeeping to keep the match closely poised. Alas as the game moved into the last 5 minutes so Hawks good fortune ran out and Abbots Youth scored two goals in quick succession. Despite the final score line it was, nevertheless an enthralling game that demonstrated Hawks competitive nature and the progress they have made since the earlier games of the season. =

Dad’s notes: I was away so did not see game 🙂
